General Practitioner

To work in the UK as a general practitioner it is necessary to hold the following certificates:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
  • Joint committee for post-graduate training for GPs certificate. (Or either the certificate of prescribed experience or the certificate of equivalent experience)
  • Up to date medical indemnity insurance
  • All non-principal GPs assisting in the provision of GMS (General Medical Services) need to be included on a Health Authority Performers List

GMC Registration

At present all Doctors who wish to work in the U.K. are required to register with the GMC. The exact conditions that govern your application vary depending upon your nationality. Specific details governing doctors from Commonwealth Countries, European Union countries and those other countries from around the world are listed in their respective sections. Please note doctors on the GMC General Practitioner List GP(T) do not have to register with the JCPTGP.

JPCTGP Registration

The Joint Committee is a statutory body which issues certificates to GPs who have successfully completed vocational training in the UK. The Joint Committee certificate is the licence to practise as a GP in the UK in any capacity.

Supplementary List
